The lake was quiet
and peaceful at the start of
this beautiful day

No rocket start this morning. It was almost 7 before I was taking my leave. Chukars were scrambling in the cul de sac but I had no chance for a photo. I drove on to Paul Lake at the top of the hill.
I came around a corner to discover a pair of does on the roadside. I startled them, so they bounded up the bank and over a fence. One caught its back leg on the fence which must have hurt. Then they stopped still to gaze back at me.
The construction equipment was still at the outflow of the lake. I parked carefully beside it and walked cautiously by it to get my shot of the lake. The ducks seemed to be gleaming in the morning sun. I noted the rosehips, a sure sign that summer is at an end.
On the way back down towards home, I caught a view of the rolling hills of the grasslands. On the final stretch I found some cattle alongside the fence. One clown-faced hereford was bawling but stopped when I took a photo. Were they thirsty? It is a long way to a creek from that spot.
I'm in for the day and it's to be another hot one. I want my feet up.
