Bougainvillea and beyond
Today's photo is a 'for the record' photo - evidence of my jolly hard work this late afternoon / early evening - though really it needs a 'before' pic for comparison. Anyway, the point is that one of my accomplishments today, was to clear the entire garden and pool surround area of a gazillion, possibly more, bougainvillea bracts. Not only did I sweep them all in to the street, I pushed them across the road and in to the undeveloped scrub land on the other side to rot down - apart from all the ones that danced their way up the street in the breeze that is. (In fact, it was like watching a carpet of pink fairies skip away - if my phone had been near I would have made a video cos it was really pretty and magical to watch).
Other activities on this pleasantly satisfying and rather hot day included plenty of pool time which extended in to the evening too, sitting on my patio/terrace in between dips. The weather is fab now. Still hot, but "only" around 35ºC, with just a little promise-of-Autumn breeze in the air.
The splendidly colourful peacock is one of the garden ornaments that was a lovely gift from Nick and Jackie when they arrived in Akbuk last week. It reflects the sunshine beautifully, and has solar lights so sparkles at night too!
Bougainvillea Fun fact: "The flowers are waxy, delicate, and frilled and are typically covered or overshadowed by clusters of colorful bracts. Bougainvillea bracts are the primary portion of the plant used in culinary and medicinal preparations and are edible raw or cooked, releasing a subtly sweet, floral, and lightly bitter taste."
