Normality
The bloody cat woke me up at half six this morning, crying in the hall for Seemingly No Reason Whatsoever. It got me up at least and I was fully caffeinated and crossworded and in town before nine for some birthday shopping and stuff for tomorrow's celebrations in the house.
Back to town with my partner late morning for some cultural shenanigans...
First up a visit to the National Portrait Gallery for their The World Of King James VI & I exhibition. Great stuff but we had to leave before finishing as time was pressing. No worries, we'd rejoined as members for the year so back another day to finish it off.
The Festival Theatre in the afternoon for Figures In Extinction, a three act theatre/dance piece created by Simon McBurney that was really quite spectacular. Act I was the pick of the bunch I'd say, some ingenious and fantastic movement from the twenty plus strong cast as they performed as animals.
After a mooch and a wander and a Soderberg coffee and a couple of teatime pints in Cloisters (blimey, not been there for ages, but when we lived in Marchmont in the 90s we were there a lot, it was on the way home after all, would have been rude not to) it was off to The Trav for Lost Lear. And the more I think about this the more I like it - some very bold stylistic choices and a real barnstorming performance from the lead, plus really very moving in places and much of the dementia-related content hit hard.
Turn right out The Trav and walk fifty yards down the road to Ting Thai Caravan - a couple of seats bagged within minutes and as we sat at the counter looking out at Lothian Road and eating some terrifically tasty dishes we reflected on a pretty satisfying day....before dashing for the bus to get home pronto.
