Scuppered
I went to a garden party this afternoon in Weybridge to mark the retirement of a former NHS colleague. Her late husband was my first Medical Director at St Peter’s Hospital. There was only one other former colleague from St Peter’s there - a consultant anaesthetist who retired five years ago and it was good to catch up with him. The other NHS people present were the host's colleagues from King's College Hospital where she ran 'safe haven' services for victims of sexual violence. A vitally important role involving close liaison with the police particularly in regard to essential forensic evidence.
Unfortunately as I was tucking into the buffet lunch the temporary repair to one of my upper front teeth came out. What remains of the tooth is due to be taken out on 8 September but I have asked for a cancellation to see if I can get it done sooner.
Today's photo is of the River Wey at the foot of the garden where the party was held. I was told that the partislly submerged boat appeared one day when the river was in flood. It has never been claimed and has been slowly sinking since, as though it has been scuppered.
