Himalayan balsam

We did our local walk today, over towards New Hutton and back round to Beehive Lane. There is a wonderful orchard over the wall, with a tree laden with black plums, possibly damsons. Loads of apples too. 
Between us and the orchard though, the little stream is quite choked with the Himalayan balsam. The flowers were buzzing with bumblebees and honey bees, but any native water plants and crayfish would be struggling. I don’t think the farmers along this lane are pulling their weeds, or their weight!
