Today we joined old friends at the A702 layby below the Pentlands for a walk and picnic. We were four French-British couples, and three dogs. I was navigator, and repeated the route that I took last Sunday. However, today the heather was well past its best, and it was cloudy. Indeed, as we approached the top of Carnethy, there were some very light drizzle. Prospects for a picnic weren't great, but when we sat down just beyond the top of Scald Law (pictured) the rain stopped, the mist cleared, and there was enough breeze to keep off the flies. One of the dogs was a Jack Russell on heat for the first time, and fortunately I'd brought the ball to distract Django from spending the day licking her. It was good to catch up with friends that I've known for 30 years, and a change from hanging out with young people.
