Significant location
Still working on the 'holidaying from home' theme, we put the bikes on the carrier last night and this morning headed off for points east......
Parked in a secluded free car park in darkest Suffolk we headed off for a circuit of Alton Water in a roughly clockwise direction followed by a circuit of the Shotley peninsula in a roughly anti-clockwise direction. (Thus cancelling out the Coriolis Effect which may have made us dizzy.....).
En route a stop at this place was essential and it was rewarding.
A group of under tens were getting absolutely filthy and soaked through building a dam in a small stream, a nearby sign reminded us that Arthur Ransome moved here from Cumbria to enjoy the sea sailing, although one wonders how many of the muddy under tens know who Arthur Ransome was.
After lunch and restoration (not involving the establishment in the thumbnail) it was onward to the very point of the Shotley peninsula. An ice cream to celebrate and on the way back a vision of the old and the new in commercial shipping......
26 miles, generally OK only a few idiots, nice scenery and moderate temperatures.
Pizza and beer when we got home.
