Giant's Causeway
On our trip we dropped in to this famous World Heritage site. We were delighted with the geology and a little bit of myth and legend, but seriously shocked with the cost and the role of the National Trust.
This is essentially a World Treasure and can be viewed free (if we had bothered to ask in advance). But on arrival you are herded into a car park and through the turnstiles as one might say and being in a foreign country one does as one is told: we wanted to see the spectacle.
BUT on our way out we realised that there are a myriad of free access routes, public access routes.
My problem is that one is not offered an alternative, You pay 7.80 Sterling to go through the Interpretive Centre, which is a most beautiful building, most tastefully done, but is mostly to do with the legend.
Now The National trust take in lots of money here, but it has hardly been spent on the causeway, or the access paths, but much of it on the building maybe.
Finally the Causeway gets 5 Stars for its natural beauty and the rip-off gets thumbs down.
