Portavadie's history is marked by a shift from an ambitious oil rig construction yard to a thriving marina and resort. Initially, in the 1970s, the site was developed to build concrete oil platforms for the North Sea, but this plan was abandoned as steel platforms became the preferred choice. The area then saw a period of abandonment before being revitalized as a 230-berth marina and resort, opening in 2009.

The ferry from Portavadie to Tarbert is similar in size to the ferry from Largs to Millport .  It takes around half an hour and I really enjoyed it.  On one side there was a sea fog and on the other bright sunshine......

We walked along to the village of Tarbert, one of my favourite places, with the ruined keep above the village.  Had coffee of course, and then Bob had a seat looking out onto the loch while I did the touristy thing in the shops.

My main is of the ferry and I have uploaded a few extras...... my pudding was excellent in the evening.
