Rhynchospora colorita
A change of plan from my normal Wednesday morning at Homegroup. A 96 year-old lady from the village had died and we wanted to go to her funeral. Her husband had been killed while on his police motorbike over 50 years ago, leaving her to bring up very young twin girls. She loved to do the flowers for church and beautiful bouquets adorned the church today.
This afternoon we went to Dobies and I saw this very unusual plant commonly called Star Rush. I'd never seen one before and was quite tempted to buy it as sedges are classed as hardy. Luckily I read the label and this one is only hardy down to -3°. Having said that, the RHS reckons it to be fully hardy.
It has tiny white flowers with these striking white bracts.
