Instow And Beyond

We've continued our exploration of North Devon.

First we made the short journey to Instow. Mrsfb thought she'd had a holiday there when she was a girl, but couldn't remember any of it. By chance we parked right next to the Hocking's ice cream van. Just as I was taking the photo for my blip a council lorry pulled up and two operatives, a man and a woman, dressed head to toe in bright yellow high vis, raced out and bought cones. I asked them if I could take a photo as the high vis looked so good against the van, but a look of panic came across their faces and they ran out of the shot. Are you worried you could be in trouble I asked, the woman replied I have no idea what you might be talking about.

A bit further up the beach there was a cricket match (first extra). Some good field placings on show, but a bit light on the off-side.

We only stayed for half an hour (it was enough) and then drove on to Fremington Quay. I remember having a meeting in the café there once with a painting contractor, discussing a specification for the bridge (second extra). We had a walk down the trail to check it out. I think the steelwork has been totally replaced since that meeting. There were lots of padlocks about too - I don't remember those being a thing back then. Most had inscriptions or even photographs built in. One was done to a tighter budget though (third extra).

We could have had lunch at the café but wanted something a bit more substantial so drove on to Barnstaple. Somehow we found ourselves in the Tarko Lounge, one of a chain including the one in Stratford frequented by a certain group of blippers. I've added a final photo for them. They will understand.

We had planned to drive on to Saunton and Croyde but were too tired! Maybe tomorrow, though we still intend to come home in the evening to avoid the Friday traffic.
