Filling the time between hospital runs

Terry had his ERCP booking today. He had to fast and drink nothing as well from before 6am so in effect he was nil by mouth from soon after midnight. Not being allowed to even drink water is not good in a heatwave! His appointment was for 12:30pm and I dropped him off early as we got there without a hitch. He didn't get the procedure done till after 2pm!
I went to do some geocaching while he was in there and drove to Old Swan to part of a series I'd already done some of. It was really too hot for caching or walking but I had my UV brolly which helped a lot.
I had only one cache left on my list when I adjourned to Costa Coffee for a drink break and a toilet visit. I ordered a mango frappe (see extra) and it was wonderful.
I had just left the venue when the hospital rang to say he was in Recovery and would be ready to collect from the Discharge Lounge in 20 minutes. I told the lady it would be longer than that before I could get there as I had at least a ten minute walk to my car then a 2.4 mile drive to the car park and then I'd have to wait for the shuttle bus.
He was not ready to come home when I got there as his BP had been low (not surprising since he'd had no fluids for 14 hours) and we had to wait a while till a nurse explained what he had had done (even though he'd had it explained during the end of the procedure when he had come out of the sedation!
We got home at 6pm. What a day.
The bad news was that they couldn't manage the ERCP (I had expected this) as they could not get through the ampulla with the tube (this has happened more than once before). Therefore, they withdrew the tube and popped it or another back in to do another EUS. This showed that the gallstone in his bile duct was no longer there and the duct was no longer swollen. Excellent! That meant he didn't need a different procedure to remove it and now he doesn't have to worry about it causing the same problem again.
Hopefully he will get his gall bladder removed in the not too distant future.
