Early Morning Beauty...

A Monarch butterfly taking a momentary but well-deserved break from ovipositing (egg-laying). The tiny flowers of the Swamp Milkweed plant have caught her eye and she's decided that this plant will be the perfect food source for her hungry potential offspring.
Swamp Milkweed is a Florida Native. It enjoys full sun and grows well in our yard as long as the soil around it remains at least somewhat damp. A perennial plant, it over-winters with ease, re emerging in early Spring. Swamp Milkweed is a host plant not only for Monarchs but also Queen and Soldier butterflies. And it provides nectar for other pollinators.   m
