Memories
Most of today was about old times and memories. The family friend, Lorna, who Mum has known since she was very young and I remember knowing since she was about Olivia's age died very suddenly aged almost 79 on the day of Mum's party. She couldn't come as she was celebrating her daughter's 50th. We'd last seen her when we spent an afternoon in her garden last September.
She'd had an interesting life. She and her husband were involved in vet medicine and had worked all over the world with the British Council: the Seychelles, Gambia, Colombia, Kenya and famously the Falklands when they appeared on British TV being evacuated in the war in 1982. They retired to outside Biggar and the service was in Livingston and then Biggar.
Being 24 deg outside it was very warm in both the crematorium and Biggar rugby clubhouse. Although it was a sad occasion it was good to catch up, after about 40 years with Lorna niece and nephews who used to visit us when they were kids. Their mum, Margery, babysat for J and I all these years ago. There was a lot of reminiscing and even some photos. Their dad worked for ICI and they were brought up in Saltburn but now live in Billingham, Manchester and Edinburgh.
I got Mum back to Edinburgh about 3.30 and once I was home it was shorts and t-shirt and out in the garden. The family were sending me photos of their return home. So far away.
I sat out the front till after 8. No wind tonight so no wafted Oasis concert.
I'm really tired but I have managed to do 3 loads of washing but still a lot of tidying up and cleaning to do.
