Scorcher?

It was very hot today.  Certainly 26 deg and hotter in the direct sun.  I started by having a swim, first for ages.  Then I did some laundry (good drying day) and tried to sit in the garden but got sidetracked by phone calls.  A couple involved arrangements for next week which mean it's even busier than originally planned.

I did manage to get out though and sat sewing and resting (too hot to sleep well last night) before heading off to the Book Festival.  I did think about not going, but hey ho.

I was there to hear Olga Wojtas (like me ex JGHS) who writes about a time travelling librarian with links to Muriel Spark and Marcia Blaine.  I wasn't the only JGHS FP in the audience. She did tell story that didn't fit with my memories about JGHS 'banning' girls from reading 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie'.  It was published when I would have been in P3 and by the time I got to S1 my English teacher was definitely promoting it.  But it made a good story.

Olga was very entertaining and funny and didn't really need an interviewer>  I didn't buy the book.  It was #5 in the series and I need to read #2 - 4 first.  It was very hot and airless though in a room without windows or AC.  I was glad to get out and head back to my garden.

My second outing of the day was to the Playhouse for 'Orpheus and Eurydice'.  I stopped off at ESF for food and drink first.  It was still very warm and of course the Playhouse is not a cool theatre. The performance was amazing, unique: opera, ballet, circus.  One of these events where you really want to go back and see it again.  However, the seats, so uncomfortable and so small.  My back was protesting well before the end.  Luckily it was only 80 minutes of discomfort.  Plus there was only one tall man in the row in front and of course he was right in front of me.

I didn't have to wait long for a bus but it was hot and slow.  I sat outside the back for a while to cool down and enjoy a nightcap but I was too tired to sit for long so it was off to bed, yet again in a hot room.
