WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

By lizzie_birkett

A better day!

After a leisurely breakfast we set off to Whitby, it’s a long, long time since we were last here and I didn’t remember how busy and sometimes loud it was. There was a very big fun fair that went on for ever.
It was also very hot. We found a lovely cafe for lunch, the decor was 1960’s and the staff were so friendly and loved Bella.
We didn’t stay for much longer after lunch and came back to the cottage for a rest.
I made tea tonight  - our grown potatoes, broccoli and veggie sausages.
Then we walked down to the harbour and sat on a bench overlooking the beach. There was a mum and lovely children playing in the sand, when they  came up onto the street they stopped to stroke Bella and we chatted for a while, she was really nice and the children so sweet.
On our way back we saw an old empty house that had seen better days and a man in a pick up came and parked there. Frank asked about the house and the man said it belongs to an American banker with loads of money but it’s been empty for years. Such a shame as it was beautiful but all the woodwork was rotting away.
He said most houses in Staithes are now holiday cottages and there are hardly any locals living here now. It made me feel bad as we are part of that  business by renting this place for a week. The man was friendly though and didn’t make us feel bad. He had a boy Collie dog who Bella took a fancy to - not like her as she’s not always friendly with other dogs, but they played together while we chatted.
In the collage is the lovely little family, Frank sketching an old outhouse across the road, Bella and her Collie pal and the rooftops with seagulls on the the chimney pots. ( I may sketch that photo ;-)

Bedtime now, thanks for the lovely comments, stars and hearts.
Goodnight :-) X
