Hammerfest
Steinbock_Travels Day 42
We woke up to some mist at the Jøkelfjord park up, which cleared gradually to become a beautiful day again. We travelled first to Alta museum, the look at the UNESCO area Stone Age rock carvings from 4000 to 5000 years ago, it was a really lovely path and a great way to start the day. Next stop was Alta, famous for a new Arctic cathedral. We didn’t go in but looked quite good for a modern church. We had an excellent cappuccino at the only place open, then carried on to Hammerfest. It is the most northerly proper town apparently. We got the most brilliant place to park up at the harbour, hot and sunny, again with a clear blue sky. We had a walk around then went out for dinner at an Asian restaurant, Sakarya. It was absolutely delicious, I had sushi and it was so beautifully presented. After dinner, it was still hot and sunny, and we walked up the hill behind the town, on the Gamelweg, old way, a beautiful old path from years ago, connecting Hammerfest with the next town.
We met a Swiss pair and dog on top, really nice to chat with them. Back at the truck, I sat for a long time watching ships, birds, and the LNG processing plant flare.
