The Eaglet has Left the Nest!
« This is how flying is done, youngster! »
The big black bird is the young Golden Eagle which left/fell out of its nest this morning. The brown bird is one of its parents that had just dropped off some food for it. What an exciting morning for me having watched this bird grow up since 23rd June, going up every Monday hoping it would make an appearance. Twice it did not and I thought it had died. Today both parents were circling, going into the cliff to check on it, calling to each other and the eaglet, which was making a heck of a racket! Apparently a young Eagle is likely to spend most of its time in the nest bowl as they are known to still use the nest as a “safe” spot. I don’t know if this one is capable of getting back up the cliff as it was way below the nest! I might return on Wednesday to check it out …
First extra, « Where’s she gone? »
Second extra, « I’m down here, Dad! »
Sorry the photos are rubbish, too far away and too much heat haze, but they tell the story and I am so excited to have seen this!
