Another fireplace

One of the first things we did when we bought Feorlean in  October 1993 (having lived in it since the end of 1992) was uncover an old fireplace in what eventually became my study (and is now a bedroom) and get it lit.  It was a bit smoky at first but it served for a while.

In the current round of work a sheet of plasterboard was discovered on what was obviously a chimney breast in another bedroom, which is used as Cathleen's work room.  

 It got removed today, and revealed another little fireplace , with a lot of soot in it.    The external chimney was long gone but we did know that this very small room was once the "good room" of the farmhouse and had a three piece suite and a piano in it.   It must have been very crowded. 

Once exposed and cleaned out, the gap was quickly covered over again to wait , no doubt, for some other owners to find it in the hopefully distant future !
