A new approach to the water butt problem also failed. I am taking two large steps back to think.

The advantages of these butts is that they are here and free

The disadvantages are that they are ugly and now not functioning.

If I'm going to start from scratch I can go for not-ugly, but those are astoundingly expensive. Or I can just get my water from the organisation whose job it is to provide it, relatively inexpensively, until such time as water shortages push the price up to make rainwater more attractive.
