Big trees
Same again today, rather dull, with a threat of rain which barely came to anything. MrsM, Daughter Two and I went for a walk this morning at Sutherland's Grove, some twelve miles north of us, and named after one of the founders of the Forestry Commision. This site has some gigantic trees along the side of the gorge of the Abhainn Teithilburn, a stream rushing through a gorge full of waterfalls.
The first trees were planted in 1870, mostly Douglas firs, one of which is my Blip today and another the extra. Striking though they are, I can't imagine why the Forestry Commision of the day could plant this amazing site for a timber crop! It would have been even more spectacular if the burn flowed through the gorge surrounded by native woodlands. Unfortunately the understory today is largely of self-sown spruce and rhododendron, both non-native, but what was done is what we live with now!
Maybe one day some major changes will take place, though it's unlikely. If I win £1 million on the pools I'll donate it to a complete restoration of the area!
Back home and after lunch I did manage a short time sitting out in the sun, but it clouded over fairly soon.
