Grumpy Old Man

All kinds of everything

I really don't know what the Clerk of the Weather is up to! You don't hear that title much these days, but I remember it from my youth. Maybe that's him in my thumbnail today, getting some exercise for a change!

Usual Saturday morning - down to the pier for fish, along to the library for books, home for a cuppa and a biscuit! I did take my camera out, but found nothing exciting.

Did some potting and weeding in between the showers and re-wound some of the runner beans pulled off the canes by the wind. Otherwise I've been working on photographs again. I'm still amazed what you can learn while looking up the simplest thing. The page of thumbnails is just an example of what I was working on, but when I Googled 'Dolphin Square' I was totally flabbergasted by reading about the people who had lived there. Over 100 MPs and Lords as it's within walking distance of Parliament, Mandy Rice-Davies and Christine Keeler, Oswald Mosley, Soviet spy John Vassall and many other characters. General de Gaulle based the Free French government there during the war and Ian Fleming was recruited to the Secret Service there. Princess Ann and Mark Phillips spent their first few years there and Winston Churchill's daughter Sarah was evicted for hurling gin bottles from her window! An exciting place!

We've just made a cuppa while the rain was beating on the window, but now I'm going to try sitting outside as the sun is streaming down from a blue sky!!

Quote of the day: 'London, that great cesspool into which all the loungers and idlers of the Empire are irresistibly drained.' - Arthur Conan Doyle. He was lying, by the way!
