CenterParcs fun
Last night was lovely when we eventually arrived. We had our G&T and #2 daughter made Spaghetti Puttanesca. It was a late but very jolly night.
The house is very hot because they had all the windows closed as #3 daughter doesn’t want mosquitoes to get in. (They all got badly bitten in their house in Belgium last week). We soon sorted ourselves out in our room and got some air through once we turned off the lights. There’s a view through the trees down to the lake. The houses are built in streets up a steep hillside and ewe have adjoining high as high as it goes at the end of a street. We have good space in front with seating, a big table, loungers and a sun shade. There’s trees for shade and a bbq.
It was a leisurely start although I woke at 4,30 UK time. I found a download from BBC sounds of Behind the Scenes at the Museum which I listened to with my headband till Mr C woke.
We all sat outside relaxing while #2 daughter went down to the shop for some rolls. The children went with her to the huge indoor pool with tunnels and slides. She left them to it - they arrived back around 1, very hungry, so we had lunch and a chill before going back down. The steps and paths were steep - about one Km to get down to the shops and activities. Meanwhile Luke and Phil drove off with the shopping list. Good deed done.
The pool area was mayhem. I don’t know how many hundreds are on site but it was very busy and extremely humid. Nathaniel escorted Mr C and me through the maze of lockers, changing rooms etc (after we used our wristband to gain access) to the very noisy pool area. We went through that to see them coming through the tube tunnels. This was fine till they came down too close together very fast and James cracked his head on the side. He’s tough.
I couldn’t cope with the sweaty heat so Mr C and I walked further down to the small beach area at the lake. The lake was full of pedalos, sail boats, canoes and a pontoon. I fought my way through the myriads of small children to reach the swimming area. It was blissful to cool down. The lake wasn’t cold but it was refreshing. As we were on cook duty we headed back up the hill, avoiding the shortcut straight up steps, instead taking the road up which was more manageable for me with my stick.
I made a warm potato salad - not easy to mash coarse salt and garlic with no mortal and pestle. I improvised by grating the garlic and lemon rind and bashing it and the salt with the back of a spoon before adding the grainy mustard, lemon juice and olive oil. Mr C was helped by Phil to BBQ sausages and ribs while I chopped peppers, mushrooms, courgettes, red onion and halloumi for the skewers. I was a sweaty mess by the time I’d finished but that’s our turn done.
The children are having sleepovers. Thomas and Nathaniel are in our house and Ella has gone next door to join James. I said to her I wondered what boys talked about and she laughed and said “I’m about to find out!”
