WHAT THE HAY?

It's horribly hot and humid outside with temperatures in the 90s F. and a humidity to match.  Just stepping outside will pull the sweat right out of you.

So....since the weather was so nice........I decided to head to Road America for the inaugural RC Crawl....radio controlled vehicles competing in several contests.  Here you see an AWD truck navigating Rock Wall #2.  There's a course laid out through the rocks and through which the drivers have to maneuver their vehicle.  They are judged according to certain criteria of which time is part of the deal.  This was a practice session.  And YES, Martha, that winch actually works and can be used to get the truck out of trouble should it be temporarily indisposed.

EXTRA: Here you see the truck's driver who is simultaneously "driving" the vehicle with one hand on the controller and the other with a small GoPro camera on a stick recording its progress.  Coordination is required.  You can see two "half" orange golf ball sized cones attached to the rocks.  The vehicle shown must navigate between the two orange cones and on to the next set of cones.

This is a new event for me and it's rather fascinating.  I learned many things I never knew about RC vehicles.  I was unaware that they could be geared low enough to be able climb rock walls.  Most of the ones I've seen are always going fast. There are several courses set up in the forest that competitors can use for fun driving events...many obstacles to practice going over, through or around.

Tomorrow, they say, they will have a ramp set up and there will be a contest to see which vehicle can jump the farthest.  I will be there, barring severe weather.
