A Fungus

An early start (again) with the dogs - taking them out in shifts..I wish they would walk nicely with each other, but they bark at anything that moves when they are together and it gets very noisy!!

I spotted this large fungus - growing right at the base of an oak tree. I believe that it is an ‘oak bracket’ - or ‘weeping conk’ which I think it a great name. The latter name derives from the liquid that oozes from the surface and leaves those dark brown stains. I tried poking it (gently) with a stick and the surface is rock hard.
