Deilephila elpenor

One of our nephews eagerly shared a picture on our weekly family Zoom get-together yesterday evening of a Privet Hawk Moth (Sphinx ligustri) caterpillar he had seen in his garden that afternoon.

Imagine our surprise then, as we were heading down our own back garden earlier this afternoon, to see this Elephant Hawk Moth (Deilephila elpenor) caterpillar grazing contentedly at the side of our garden path.
