The Great Hall
Winchester
Walk up the River Itchen to Winnall Moors nature reserve, however it was closed off due to issues with the path. We still enjoyed a walk up the river parallel to the reserve.
Over to the Arc for the 'Beyond the Bonnets' exhibition - looking at working women in Jane Austen's time and with reference to her novels. We were early so enjoyed the sunshine and learnt a little about Licoricia of Winchester from the information board beside her statue.
Up to the Great Hall, with Queen Eleanor's garden, a round table inspired by Arthurian legend and temporary display of two costumes from the BBCs 1995 Pride and Prejudice adaptation.
The Winchester City museum early afternoon to see the Roman mosaics, medieval finds and various other local items. Jane Austen's pelisse coat also temporarily on display in the museum - demonstrating she would have been taller than us.
It was beautifully warm, so MK and I had a further wander around the cathedral precinct, Dean Garnier gardens and the deanery bookshop. Walk up the hill to the Peninsula barracks and a pleasant pause sitting in the shade of a tree.
Back down to meet S for a beer while listening to a busking guitarist. Picnic tea to round out the day.
