Biennial

An eastern tiger swallowtail in perfect condition, feeding on the flowers of some joe-pye weed today. Last saw one of these two years ago and prior to that two years before. Wonder why they show up with that cycle, or maybe it's just the conditions that suit them in those years. Lucky I could get close for a great photo and lucky it's such a good specimen.
