French Hitchhikers

Meet Maël and Paul.

We saw them hitching a lift as we drove into Évora, to leave Kent and Valerie at the bus station, and then they were still there as we drove out - in punishing heat. So stopped and asked where they wanted to go - they answered, "Mourão". We explained that we were on our way to church in Viana, but they could come with us and then we would take them to Mourão. Think they were pretty relieved to get out of the sun.

They explored Viana while we had a coffee with Padre Luís (who is off to Bordeaux tomorrow for a course), and then attended the service. Meant we couldn't have lunch with Luís, but I was exhausted and keen to get home anyway. The lads' English wasn't great (though better than our French), so still don't know why they wanted to come to Mourão, or where they were going to stay, but gave them my number, and said to ring if they needed help at all, or somewhere to stay, and then dropped them off at the beach as requested. Asked them to take this selfie before they got out, so we could remember them.

Gratefuls:
- getting Kent and Valerie to their coach in plenty of time
- seeing Luís and attending his church; his homily was so good
- Sem Fim tonight with twelve of us
