Happy Moments

Stanghow

It was grey and raining for most of the morning, as forecast, so the decision yesterday to move the little outing to the afternoon was the right one.
At 1.30 Barbara, myself and Olivia went through to a small hamlet called Stanghow about 15 minutes from Saltburn to an NGS open garden.

A super garden, not overly big but well laid out and very good planting combinations. As always with places that have visitors the photo op’s are challenging but this one of the ornamental bridge turned out ok.

After we had walked round we adjourned to the terrace where they were serving tea and cake (or savouries) and we had a further chat and catch up about all sorts of things with our refreshments. A lovely afternoon.

We came home a different route (Olivia is like my own personal satnav as she has lived here all her life) and stopped off at a place called Birk Brow, one of the highest (nearest to here) points along the moor road so I could see in several directions, out to sea and way across inland to the moor. Definitely a place I shall return to at some point for some pictures, but I’ve included in extras two of the ones I took from there, the view to the sea towards Staithes and the heather which is just coming into season now on the moor.
