Life is a Challenge!

A GREAT SERVICE - WHAT IS LOVE?

Many of us at our church often wear more than one hat!  That is to say, we don’t just “go to Church” on a Sunday, but many of us collect food and even plants from local supermarkets so that there is plenty to stock the Community Fridge each week, collect Bags of Hope to be delivered and sort out things in the storeroom.

Today was no exception for us and several other people.  Having collected a bootful from Morrison’s yesterday, we took it to Church this morning well before the service started, and with Meg’s help and the help of a couple of “strong” and I might add, rather unsuspecting men, decanted this into the storeroom.  Whilst in there, I happened to see some bags that are used by those attending the Community Fridge, so asked Meg how she had managed to get these, and particularly as they were made from material supporting her football team of Liverpool.

She told me that someone had given her some curtains, but that the colours didn’t go with her décor, so rather than waste the material, she decided to make it into bags.  However, she said her big mistake was giving one of them to an Everton fan - may she be forgiven!

I didn’t have much time to wander around the Church prior to the service, but as you will see managed to find some interesting things.  The drumsticks- and I hope that’s the right name for these stick things with red on them - still good for Liverpool - and gloves - belong to today’s drummer, Ross.  The guitar, which I thought had a face on it (!) - or pareidolia, as we Blippers call it - belongs to Mark, who was leading worship today.  Then there are a couple of fun shots - A. holding her binoculars and another A. with her feet poking through her Mum’s feet.

You may be wondering what chocolate has to do with a church service - well on the first Sunday of each month, we have a chocolate box for adults and a box with chocolate and sweets for children, whose birthdays fall in that particular month.  There weren’t many children this morning with August birthdays, but quite a lot of adults.

The sermon by Graham, a visiting speaker, was entitled “What is Love” and, of course, the Bible reading was from the famous “love” passage, I Corinthians 13 - often read at weddings.  I wish I could find the YouTube video that was used in the service, because there were some great little “nuggets” in it to remind us exactly what love is and isn’t!

One of the quotes : “Love is not easily angered...when she disagrees with him about what a garage should be used for” made me smile - and Mr. HCB, who was sitting next to me got a dig in the ribs when that one came up!  I wonder why?

A good time of meeting up with people after the service for coffee and biscuits and plenty of chat, which is always good.

Hope you all have a great week - and stay safe, especially tomorrow when bad weather is forecast, with lots of rain and high winds. M xx
