B is for Baby (Shower)
Solveig and I spend Lili’s nap time sanding wooden blocks and filling party bags. Baby Showers need both activities and treats apparently!
The event is taking place in a cafe in Liverpool’s Baltic Quarter, where we decorate the tables with the help of the lovely staff as guests slowly trickle in from various circles of Solveig’s life - young mums, architect co-workers, and fellow book-clubbers. I’m by far the oldest there, of course, but it doesn’t seem to matter.
I’m very relived that Solveig’s eschewed icebreaker games and activities like guess the smashed up chocolate bar lined up in babies’ nappies! Instead, it’s a case of lots of chatter refreshed by a delicious assortment of meze, while we each decorate a wooden block - plain but for a pencilled letter. We have a variety of coloured pens for the task. I’m feeling quite intimidated as I’m seated with the architects who are - unsurprisingly - artistically gifted! Fortunately, there’s no judgement, and at the end of the afternoon they’re collected and taken home to Lili - along with so many gifts, we need help to carry them to the car! A lovely afternoon, but I do find socialising with lots of people tiring!
Back in Meols, Lili has been entertained on the beach by daddy and taid - they all seem to have a great afternoon!
My main is a shot of our completed artwork! and I’ve added one of Daniel and Lili on the beach
