Ukraine Catholic Cathedral

This is the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral on Duke Street. Duke Street is just off the Oxford Street in central London. Alfred Waterhouse was the architect - who also designed the National History Museum in London and the Manchester Town Hall amongst many other commissions that he was involved with.

This Cathedral was the last building on our two-hour walking tour of Mayfair this morning which was led by urban historian and architectural researcher, London Ambler or Mike Althorpe. Mike discussed how over the last 300 years, the architecture of buildings in Mayfair and Grosvenor estate in London has been shaped by economy, social conditions, competition amongst the rich and wealthy, gentrification and geography. There was a lot to take in as we walked through the streets of Mayfair.

In the extras is a closeup of the cathedral, a view from the top of Duke Street looking in Davies Street, Henry Moore sculpture that we spotted on a building near New Bond Street, buildings on Park Lane near London Hilton Hotel where the walking tour started, Green Park near Hyde Park Corner and, finally, a French girl playing the street piano at St Pancras station while waiting for Eurostar.
