Steam Traction and Tractor Rally
The County Down Traction Engine Club held their 50th annual rally in Ballygowan today. I spent most of the day there with much to see including a saw mill operated by a steam traction engine. Many other exhibits on display - all sorts of engines, vintage car and military vehicles, including a Shorland armoured car, a converted Land Rover fitted with a gun turret that was engineered by Short Brothers in Belfast. Their main use was in riot control situations. Some were used over seas, in Cyprus for example.
I will feature it as an extra photo showing the only drivable one left in the country, it last served with the 7th Bn Ulster Defence Regiment, which was later merged with the Royal Irish Rangers to form the Royal Irish Regiment
