Vaulting
It was Day 4 of the Scottish Six Days today. It began with goodbyes to Euan and his Dad who were off on the final leg of their Scottish road trip visiting old University friends. Becky, Tony and I then headed to Balfour Forest for the orienteering. I decided to take part today as my knee was feeling okay and there were promises of an easier forest. I took it carefully and tried to avoid forest floor brashings as far as possible. I was slow but accurate.
After I finished I took my camera to the end of the field to capture incoming runners. It was a World Ranking Event today and so there were two entrances to the finish funnel, the one in my blip purely for the Elite orienteers who were competing for World Ranking points. They had to make the decision to cross the fence via this high jump or take the steps. In my blip two of the men arrived at this point together and this one vaulted the fence perfectly to win the edge on his competition.
Once Becky and Tony finished, Becky doing well to achieve 6th place in her class and Tony disgruntled at a tricky, unnecessary control on top of a hill in thick heather, we picked up some shopping in Aboyne then returned to Glen Tanar to shower and prepare for the arrival of folks for CJ's birthday. We offered the use of our holiday house for the event because CJ and her family were housed quite some miles away and a long way down a track, whereas we were just ten minutes or so away from today's event.
It was lovely to have lots of people in the garden, bringing food and sharing lively conversation. Dinner was rather late!
