Fleet

I am a voluntary driver for Chobham Neighbourhood Care although I'm only able to take bookings occasionally. I did have one this afternoon which, for the first time, took me to Fleet Community Hospital. Fleet is a town in Hampshire around 13 miles away via the M3. Whilst my passenger attended her outpatient appointment, I went for a coffee in the town. It's not the most distinctive town but I thought this pub was an interesting building. It's called the Emporium which was its name when it opened as a store in the 18th century selling "everything from bags of nails to coffins". It was always used as a store until it changed to an 'ale cafe' in 1996. It was further redeveloped in 2018 and is now a pub restaurant, part of the Greene King brewery chain. The turret clock was restored to working order in 1995 but didn't appear to be working today. Time stands still in Fleet.
