MUNCHING MACHINE
This hairy little fellow is a voracious munching machine – all he wants to do is eat. You can see he’s doing serious damage to the leaf he’s on. Some people believe they can predict how harsh the winter will be if they see a lot caterpillars in the fall, and also by how ‘furry’ those caterpillar are. This theory pertains to the wooly bear caterpillar which is black on each end and brown through the middle. (I wasn’t able to identify this guy, but it I’m sure it isn’t a wooly bear.)
Today I was surprised to see yet another different bird at the feeder – a Downy Woodpecker! I was excited to see him since I’ve never seen one in our area before. Unfortunately I didn’t get a good shot since he didn’t stay still for a hot second. If I see him again, with enough time to focus the camera to get a good picture, he’ll definitely make it to my blip page.
