FEEDER BOUNCER

This female cardinal spent so much of the day in the wood chips beneath the bird feeder. Granted there are a lot of seeds on the ground to eat, but her assignment seemed to be scaring away other birds who came to the feeder. Even if a little chipmunk appeared for a few fallen seeds, she fluffed her feathers and dove at him too.

She seems several shades lighter than the other female cardinals, so I wonder if she is almost albino. The others definitely aren’t the darker red of the male, but they do have a reddish tan, where this bully cutie doesn’t have even a hint of red. Her coloring is a nice camouflage in the wood chips & leaves though.

It’s been a busy day today - here it is almost midnight and I’m just sitting down to finish my blip for today. Thank heavens there was some bird activity early this morning so I had a couple backups since I didn’t get out to find anything else.
