The Nelsons

It's a bakewell tart Jim, but not as we know it...

Mme MB decided to go and do the shopping in Aldi, for a change. Although we have a Lidl on the outskirts of our village, the Aldi is about 10km down in La Ferté Alais, a small town to the south of us.
She found these cakes, that came individually wrapped in a box. I suppose in French they would be almond cakes, but there is a bit of jam at the bottom of the sponge. Not as much icing as on a bakewell tart, but about the same taste as one. Possibly less sweet.

Otherwise, these last few weeks have been a bit samey since the kids finished college/lycée. I think I've hit a low, with back problems continuing. I'm not sleeping well either. The kids are out of sync, so not sleeping enough at night so then end up getting up late.

On Thursday me and Rémy went over to the other house to strip the small corridor of wallpaper. We also cleared a bit of paper left in one of the rooms and also got rid of picture hooks in all the other rooms.

We then measured 3 bedrooms to see how much wall paper we'd need.
Mme MB is on holiday now, so we'll be going away to the Sologne on Monday with Emma. We've rented a gite there. Rémy will be staying here, to hopefully do a bit of work around our house, plus probably invite some friends over. We had planned on going down to the Dordogne, with Emma and her boyfriend. But his family decided that they didn't want him to go. He has been away quite a lot so Emma has been in the doldrums.

So when we come back, Rémy will be going down to the Dordogne for a week with a friend.

I've decided that I don't like going down there to the house during the Summer. It is so noisy now, with loads of tourists. There is a restaurant next door with an unpleasant owner, sometimes she argues with customers or tells people off for damaging her plants - planted in a public place.
She also lets visitors park in front of our garage down there, she no doubts gets up to allsorts while we are away, which is why last year I had to ask people to move their cars. Parking out front makes it impossible for those in the car park to turn around, when leaving.

Anyway, we'll probably go down there in Autumn, when it'll be a bit quieter.
