Day 5 Cycling in Bavaria
We woke up in our split level hotel room, trotted down the stairs and looked out of the balcony to find mist! Today we cycled 53 km to the historic market town of Bad Tolz.
We set off early passing many beautiful dewy cobwebs and the mist soon lifted and it was a boiling hot day! The first ten km was along a toll road through a valley which was a nature reserve with forested sides and a view down to the Isar river shown here in my blip. It was very peaceful as there were not many people about yet.
We stopped off for early lunch at Jager von Fall and had complimentary white german sausage with a giant pretzel shape bread, and a beer. Further along the route we crossed over the Isar where it became a dam and reservoir. Then it was a long downhill run to Lengries where we stopped for a cup of tea and apple strudel!
Still following the Isar cycle path we made our way to Bad Tolz, encountering many other cyclists, joggers and walkers along this stretch.
We walked into the old town and dined outside under a large umbrella in one of the many restaurants on the sloping main street. This is pedestrianised and all the buildings on both sides are painted with magnificent murals, and is said to be the best decorated street in Bavaria. It was really impressive!
