Ian Malcolm Cutler

A very poignant funeral this afternoon of an immensely talented musician and all round lovely man whose music has been part of our lives for over 25 years.

Some of you may have seen him playing his fiddle in the bar in the film The Wicker Man. Others may know of him through countless performances with many bands including Feast of Fiddles, Hot Rats and the Bully Wee Band.

He was so highly regarded in the folk music world that his funeral was attended by musicians who we have seen many times over the years. It was a privilege to be in the presence of people like Simon Nicol (Fairport) Phil Beer (Show of Hands) and many friends from the bands he played in.

We shared a special honour with his two daughters in that the Hot Rats with Ian and Doug Hudson played a ceilidh at our wedding, as they did for his daughters. The Rats also played at Susan’s retirement event.

The waterlily is in our pond. We usually only get one a year. This may well be the last time we will see, it so it seems appropriate to dedicate it to Ian’s memory. The like of whom will not be seen again but who will live on through his music and through all the people whose lives he touched
