What big eyes you've got...
A busy morning, with a visit from J, V and their 3 children. V was Richard's PhD student, back in the day, and J was an undergraduate on the Health and Human Sciences course that I led for some years. Eventually they realised that they were more than friends, and got married. Richard and I were delighted, and still are.
So... tea, cake, catch-ups etc. Meanwhile their two boys alternated between exploring Eben's drum kit and playing with a Brio building kit. Baby B enjoyed some quiet attention. All good.
Later I did a marathon editing and uploading session with mural images. After that I needed some outdoor time, and did some minor tidying up in the garden. Peering into the fig tree, I found this little hoverfly. The figs on the tree are the second crop of the year, and most of them won't ripen in our climate. Given this year's sustained warm, dry weather though, a few might make it to juicy maturity. With luck.
Jack, Ruth and I have been exchanging text messages about the continuing Gaza news. We are all reduced to speechlessness. However, Jack has heard about a 'silent march' planned by a Palestine solidarity group for Saturday in Sheffield. We all intend to go. What else can we do, apart from continue to correspond with our MP (a Muslim woman, who is steadfast in speaking up already), and send intermittent donations to Medical Aid for Palestinians.
