Fly on a grass stem

Another early morning image captured at Taskers meadow. I am often amazed at the constructions that spiders build - intricate webs of all shapes and sizes and in this case the ability to bend a grass seed head round to create an oval structure such as this. In this case perhaps the web has been damaged by rain or perhaps the spider has not finished construction as only a few strands are visible. The fly can consider itself lucky as the lack of a completed web has allowed it to land on the grass stalk without the potential of being caught in the web and becoming prey for the spider.
