A Moment with Mom
I used to go down Petts Rd. quite often just to see the sand-hill crane couple, but got out of the habit. One of the reasons I stopped was because there is not a good place to pull off the road.
From what I have observed over the years, sand-hills are good parents, dutifully tending to the needs of their chicks. Plus, the babies seem to listen quite well. Eventually the parents don't give the worms and grubs to the babies, making them do the pecking themselves.
Petts Rd. runs along Petts Lake, which holds a special place in our family's memory. Our friend Amos P. was water skiing on the very small lake when he suddenly dropped the rope and dove into the water. We quickly u-turned the boat and asked..."WHAT'S WRONG? WHAT HAPPENED?" Amos replied..."I losth my teef!"
That's right, he lost his dentures, the uppers if my memory is correct.
Funny, but not funny.
What was dad and the other toddler crane doing? Check out the extra to find out.
Maybe father does know best,
the other baby needs the rest.
