Match For Marcus

After two weeks off, we all found this morning’s Park Run a bit of a slog but it was good to catch up with all the regulars again.

This afternoon saw the second and last pre-season friendly at Huish Park against Bristol Rovers. Billed as a Match For Marcus, it was a sort of testimonial for Marcus Stewart who played for both clubs- and a few others - in an illustrious career.

Most recently he has been on the coaching staff at Yeovil for the past 3 years but was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease about the time he joined us and, sadly, decided at the end of last season that it was time to retire as the disease is beginning to make it difficult to do the job.

He has been raising awareness and funds for research into the disease ever since his diagnosis and all proceeds from the game went to his fund.

The (very bad) photo shows him in the black t-shirt, having just received a presentation from the chap next to him in the wheelchair who is a member of the Yeovil Disabled Supporter’s Association and just happens to be a former member of one of my Tutor Groups at the local school I taught in more years ago than either of us care to remember! I managed to catch up with him for a chat at half time.

Another enjoyable game, that ended 2-1 to Rovers
