A new butterfly...
...for my catalogue!
When the sun peaked out after yesterday's rain, I went to look at the long grass and suddenly noticed flashes of blue. Eventually using manual focus on my camera, I managed to take shots of 4 tiny butterflies (overwing in the main, and underwing in the extra). It was only when I got them magnified on my computer screen that I could identify them as male Adonis Blue butterflies. The females were probably there as well, but they are a dull brown and much better camouflaged.
They are a typical species of our (now) unimproved chalk grassland, and they feed on Horseshoe Vetch which clogs up my lawnmower when I finally mow the grass at the end of August.
