Ooops! in Totnes and Modbury
My apologies to the people who viewed and commented on this already. It should have been posted as Monday's entry, not Tuesday's. I blame the blipfoto app, and the amount of Cornish Rattler cider drunk in the pub, where the internet may be accessed. I am trying again from a cafe in Kingsbridge, with nothing stronger than a cup of tea in front of me...
Mid-morning we left Milverton and headed off towards the M5 South. Big mistake. Couldn't even get on the motorway. Three hours later, exhausted and bedraggled, we arrived in Totnes, the quiche capital of South Devon, vowing to return to the small town of Silverton when we have more time. It looked an interesting market town, but we were bound to a timetable, having arranged to meet Steve's old friend Dave at his photo exhibition in Totnes.
Dave's work, in a different league altogether! Wow!
I snapped this planter in a cafe courtyard where we had lunch. Then I went off down the high street to check out the shops (very alternative; bought some peppermint foot cream and some handmade paper); back to the exhibition where I bought some of Angie (Dave's wife)'s jewellery. Then off to Modbury where we went looking for Steve's ancestors. You can just see him disappearing up an alley in the inset picture here, but we couldn't find the house he was looking for as recorded on the tithe map of 18-something.
Modbury is a lovely town, so we are going back today (Tuesday) to see if we can do better on the ancestor trail. We didn't have long because we were due at Yealmpton, where we stayed with Prue and John, Steve's old friends from back in the day. So much talking last night and drinking, that I never got round to blipping!
So here it is, a day late, and today the sun is blazing and we're off to the campsite at last! Skippedy doo-dah....
