Herpetology Lesson

I was not expecting to find this curled up on the lawn! Even Mr. So was impressed. I went to my Reptiles and Amphibians book, he went to Snakes of Wisconsin on the web, and we both came to the same conclusion - a Fox Snake. I believe it's what locals call a Pine Snake and it's common, well not all that common because I've never seen one before.

Fox Snakes eat rodents (good, sorry chipmunks) and ground nesting birds (bad) and they can climb well.. Apparently if you find a snake in your garage it's liable to be a Fox Snake. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

I took the picture from our balcony looking down on it just in case it was dangerous (it's not) and so as not to disturb it.
