Maybe it's the crazy I like
We started the day with Owen's class assembly, all about plastic pollution. He delivered his line brilliantly and clearly for everyone to hear, "look, a plastic bottle" before the closing song, Clean Up The Sea.
A quick trip to get presents and a nice relaxed coffee and croissant before starting the journey down to Reading for the Heritage Live event I won tickets for last week. We got there in plenty of time, sitting in the car park with our meal deals and canned cocktails* before going in, like proper veterans.
There is something special about live music outside in the sun, and this was in the grounds of Englefield House for a more interesting backdrop*.
Alfie Templeman was a pleasant surprise, sounding much better live than I'd thought.
Hard-Fi were disappointing, coming across like a 40 something man pretending he was still 20.
Doves picked it back up nicely and had everyone going, even if they didn't play There Goes The Fear.
The Wombats though were the main event, the reason I entered the competition in the first place, and the reason we made such a mental journey on a school night. They were excellent as always and played pretty much everything you'd want them to, including an accapella Girls, Boys and Marsupials that I've not heard live for a long time now. Lots of jumping, lots of dancing, lots of singing, and a small dose of karma with someone singing/shouting louder than me :D made it a great choice to go.
Just the 3 hour journey to get home once we got out the car park...and then work in the morning.
Yes, we're crazy.
