Amazing scenery
Another super day at the top of the world.
It was our turn to go out in the Science boat.
Because there are a number of expedition ships, and virtually no local ferries or delivery vessels, it makes sense of these cruises to collaborate ofn a range of scientific projects. It’s a lovely idea to encourage tourists to take part as it raises awareness.
So many statistics are scary : for example, those about the potential extinction of polar bears and of the impact of a drastic reduction in plankton in our oceans. In the High Arctic you cannot help be aware of climate change……
We didn’t do anything complex…collecting water samples, measurement of depths and visibility, the sounding device which can listen for marine creatures…….but even so, it’s good to feel involved.
The views here change so quickly and as light changes, you have so many wow moments. My blip today is a panoramic, to try and give a sense of the huge distances and the terrains.
Extra. First extra is a photo taken by an American passenger who was quicker to respond when we saw a black bird attacking a smaller white one. Very noisy and so close to the deck.
Second, taken just before 11.00 pm, in broad day.ight, is of the walruses on Moffen island.
I also saw a whale, but nobody else did. I’m sure I didn’t imagine it !
